The Wild Blue Yonder

Off I go! Today I’m driving, and tomorrow morning (waaay too early, and not by choice) I’ll be hopping across the country on my way to do some socializing before the annual Romance Times convention. This will be my first conference as an author, and I just happened to pick one of the doozies.

Times like this I have to dig deep inside myself for the outgoing side of my personality. Seriously, I’m a shy person. I can see the eyes rolling, but anyone close to me knows. I sit behind this laptop screen and type away, and I’m sheilded by the anonymity of the internet and a pen name. The RT Convention will not only crack the shell, it will likely break the whole thing, crumbling away and getting stomped on at the Fairy Ball. (Oh yes. An entire get-together where everyone is dressed as woodland creatures, and me without any wings.) It will be good for me though, and I plan on learning a lot, and maybe sneaking a shot or two of whiskey to keep my inhibitions at bay.

As far as writing goes, I’ve finished Tessa’s Pride as Olivia Brynn, and I’m in the middle of a romantic suspense that hasn’t been titled yet…I like to leave that for last. Once I’m home from my trip, and things settle down a bit, I’ll be able to dig back into that one.

I also took a little break to redesign Olivia’s website. Now that I know how to tweak things on there, I’ll never have any free time! That’s okay, it’s fun. Besides all of that, I’m editing for one publisher, and proof reading and sales-administer-ing for another, so although it might look like I’m sitting in front of my computer doing nothing, I really am doing something! Sometimes.

On a different note, did you see my initials on that airplane? I didn’t even have to photoshop them in there, it just came that way! Suppose it’s a good sign? Also, I found this beautiful Snow Fairy on an artist’s website. Click to check it out.

Alright folks, on to the trip, got my teddy-bear packed, and I’m hoping I don’t get chosen for the random body cavity search at any of the six airport stops before I get home.

Six Sentence Sunday 4/18/10

This week, I’m going to continue with six more lines from my WiP, with a working title of simply Parker I’ll pick up where I left off last Sunday, which were the first six sentences. I suppose, if you continue reading my SSS posts, you’ll eventually read the entire book! Hm, guess I’d better keep working on it then!

Now, she sat in the twenty four hour restaurant having breakfast at three in the afternoon with her best friend, explaining why she needed Susan’s realty advice.
“Do you have any proof?” Susan stopped swirling the leftover strawberry from her crêpe in the red syrup on her plate, and tucked a blond curl behind her ear. “It could just be a big misunderstanding.”
Brynn barked a mirthless laugh. “If the instant messaging logs aren’t proof, I don’t know what would be.”

For more Six Sentence Sunday fun, visit the official website for all participants’ posts. Have a great Sunday! See you next time.

Six Sentence Sunday 4/11/10

Today I’m featuring the first six lines from my work in progress as yet untitled, a contemporary romantic suspense.

Bronwynn stirred her coffee, but had no reason to; she liked it black. The blacker the better. Nothing should get in the way of pure caffeine intake. The chinking sound of her spoon hitting the side of the mug calmed her for some reason, so she continued to stir. Her world had been turned upside down this morning. A simple virus scan led her to the chat log files, a conversation between her husband and an unknown woman, and her curiosity took over from there.

Now that Olivia finished her latest, I’m going to pick this one back up and start hacking away. Thanks for stopping by, and for more SSS fun, be sure to check out the official website for more participants.

Saturday Survey 4/10/10

Imagine this: You’re enjoying a night out with your other single friends. There is plenty of eye candy…one guy is just your type. You send the right signals, he returns them, and finally he makes his way over. First impression is good: Nice eyes, smells great, well built, clean hands.…then he opens his mouth, and he sounds like Beaker from the Muppets. If you can restrain your giggles, do you put that aside and get to know him better? Or is that just the one thing you can’t deal with? If not the voice, then what is it that would make you turn down an otherwise perfect catch? I had so many “hell no“s that I couldn’t list them all here on the poll. (No, I’m not picky…) Let me know your “no-fricking-way“s.

A New Review for Falling Star

Falling Star was reviewed by Kathy over at Dark Diva Reviews. Here is what she had to say:

I don’t know exactly what I expected from this story, but what I read was much richer in detail and emotion than I would have thought. Of course all that means is that now Olivia Brynn is on my list of authors to hunt out… er, books, I’ll be hunting out books!

Falling Star is very much Adam’s story, to start with anyways. Most of the changes in his life have already started — in a big way — but they’ve been on the inside. He knows that he’s got years of a poor reputation to overcome and, more importantly, he’s not blaming anyone other than himself. Adam’s prepared to do what he must to become the person that he wants to be.
Meeting Jade just gives him a stronger impetus to repair his lack of credibility. This is one of the things that I like best about Ms. Brynn’s story; he didn’t need to meet Jade before he began to turn his life around. This is something that he had done because he’d had enough of his ego and subsequent “star” behavior.

I really like Jade; she’s down-to-earth and she’s real. I also enjoyed, almost as much as did Adam that she didn’t have a clue as to who her new beau was. She was her normal, sweet, caring and wonderful self and she got to Adam faster than anyone had ever.

Oh and Jade’s best friend Dean? Oh dear heaven, a book all about him and his search for love? That would be just too wonderful.

All in all, Olivia Brynn has created in Falling Star a hero who is definitely worthy of the name, and a heroine who, just by being herself, adds so much to Adam’s life.

A beautiful romance and I sincerely enjoyed my introduction to this author’s writing.

Rated 4½ Delightful Divas by Kathy!

I’ve been threatening to write Dean’s HEA…guess I should just do that. Funny how she thought it was Adam’s Story, as that was the working title for most of the time I spent writing it.

In other news, I’ve submitted my contemporary western-ish novel Tessa’s Pride to an epublisher. I’ll keep you all informed on the progress.  I’ll share a blurb and excerpt soon.

A Warm Easter Fuzzy

The Easter Bunny brought me a warm fuzzy! Just Erotic Romance Reviews, aka JERR’s newsletter came out on Easter Sunday, and Stefani gave Fine Print 4.5 stars!  Here’s what she had to say:

Kara Sorrento has life by the balls, and if that doesn’t include a man, well so be it. She would like to have a baby though, and tough and thorough as she is, Kara has worked out the perfect solution to her little man-less problem. Now that she has found the perfect man, all she needs to do is convince him to agree. Derek Martinez can’t believe the petite blond had the nerve to ask him to father her child. The fact that she wants him to sign a contract, well Derek isn’t planning to follow her rules, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t going to share his DNA with her. First he has to break through her ice-cold façade, and then just when he thinks he is making progress, someone from her past shows up and throws them all into a world of danger.

Fine Print is the first story I have read by Ms. Coca, but it will not be the last. I love this story! Kara Sorrento’s character was a bit irritating at the beginning, but the more she opened up, the more I understood her. She is guarded but determined. Who doesn’t admire a woman who knows what she wants? When what she wants comes wrapped in an all around amazing package as Derek Martinez, well Whew! Need I say more? He is amazing, a great guy and brilliant at negotiating that contract. There were several secondary characters including Kara’s sister Kris who was a fun character and I would love to read her story one of these days. Sexually, Kara and Derek made my toes curl. There were a whole lot of romantic escapades and the foreign setting was perfect for the storyline. I can’t say it loud enough, for an awesome erotic romance grab a copy of Fine Print. You will be glad you did!

Thanks Stefani! Glad you enjoyed it. Fine Print is available in ebook and print, just click HERE for more information.

Ride ’em Cowboy

This week I’m putting the finishing touches on my latest, and it seems I dipped a little too deep in Alanna’s side of the brain, because the hero, Josh Bradley, ended up being a sexy Montana cowboy.

I’m at the point right now, where I could wrap it up in a few hours, but I have the tendency to rush endings, so I’m trying to control myself. I’ve been at this point for a week or two, and I keep going back to the middle chapters and beefing it up. You don’t mind if I put some meat on my cowboys, do you?

Here is a tentative blurb. The book is titled Tessa’s Pride, a contemporary western erotic romance with a bit of intrigue thrown in.

Tessa McCade isn’t a quitter. After six years of hard work, she took ownership of Bradley Equine Ranch, the best show-horse ranch in Montana. She was so sure of her abilities that when a disease strikes down most of her herd, she’s stunned. With her reputation ruined, she has no choice but to sell, even though that means swallowing her pride, and giving up her dream. The last person she wanted to see in this state of mind is Josh Bradley, the prodigal son of BER, and a man whose kisses are lethal to a woman’s self control. Tessa doesn’t know whether he came back to bail her out or rub it in. Either way, he’s got another thing coming. if there’s one thing Tessa refuses to lose, it’s her pride.

I’ll keep you updated on the progress of Tessa’s Pride. I might need a lasso and cattle prod before it’s all said and done. Any volunteers?

Six Sentence Sunday 3/28/10

This Sunday I’m featuring six lines from my work in progress tentatively titled Tessa’s Pride an erotic western contemporary romance. This one is so close to being done, I can almost taste the celebratory brandy!

You don’t expect me to stay in a hotel, do you? When the big house that has belonged to my family for generations sits all but empty?”

Yes.

Well, no…but I didn’t…I guess I didn’t realize you’d planned on staying in the area.”

For folding them so carefully, he tossed the underwear into the drawer without a thought before walking toward her. No, he didn’t walk, he prowled; like a hungry lion. “You’re afraid, aren’t you?”

As always, more SSS participants, and the official website are HERE. Have a great week!

Six Sentence Sunday 3/21/10

Today’s SSS comes from my book Retreat, a contemporary western romance:

Blurb:

Ten years ago, Andria Thomas celebrated her high school graduation with a retreat at a Wyoming guest ranch. She never expected to fall for a young cowboy during her horseback riding lessons. There was no way that she would sacrifice her well planned life for a long distance relationship with a guy she’d only known for two weeks!

Now, after a bitter divorce, Andria returns to the V‑Bar Guest Ranch, and is surprised to find that not only did Jake Walker still work on the ranch; he was running the place. The last thing she needs is another disruption, and re-treating herself to a fling with an old lover is not the way to relax and regroup. It was a good thing she’d have help resisting his charm, thanks to Jake’s wife. Time for a hasty Retreat.

Thank you.” Her voice was breathy, almost like those noises she made when he was deep inside her.

You’re welcome.” Get the hell out of here. Now. The first step is to tear your eyes away from hers.

He was able to get that far, and was relieved when his feet actually moved him to the door. His hand was on the knob when she stopped him.

Jake?”
