I just fin\u00adished round one of edits for Posi\u00adtion Secured, my short sto\u00adry at Samhain Pub\u00adlish\u00ading. It was fair\u00adly pain\u00adless, but what do you expect from a short? I made a \u00c2 few sil\u00adly errors, so I\u2019m glad that my edi\u00adtor Lin\u00adda caught them before I embar\u00adrassed myself. \u00c2 Also, I found out that Aman\u00adda Kelsey does cov\u00ader work for Samhain, and I did a lit\u00adtle hap\u00adpy dance. I\u2019ll be request\u00ading her hand\u00adi\u00adwork on Posi\u00adtion Secured, so cross your fin\u00adgers that they\u2019ll let me have her.<\/p>\n
In oth\u00ader news, I\u2019m about half-way through anoth\u00ader short sto\u00adry, still unti\u00adtled. Short sto\u00adries are eas\u00adi\u00ader in some ways \u2014 if I con\u00adcen\u00adtrate, I could have one done in a few days \u2014 but it\u2019s extreme\u00adly hard to make a sen\u00adsi\u00adble plot and devel\u00adoped char\u00adac\u00adters in 20k words. Some\u00adone once told me that a short sto\u00adry is just one long scene. I think that\u2019s a pret\u00adty good way to look at it. I might throw a few flash\u00adbacks in there, or two semi-long scenes instead of one\u2026who knows. This is new to me. I\u2019ll nev\u00ader stop writ\u00ading longer nov\u00adels though; I real\u00adly like get\u00adting into these char\u00adac\u00adter\u2019s heads. As a read\u00ader I like to feel<\/em> along with the hero\u00adine. Heartache, loss, love, fear\u2026whatever she\u2019s got going on. I like per\u00adson\u00adal involve\u00adment. The trick is to write sto\u00adries that do the same for my readers.<\/p>\n Okay, I\u2019d bet\u00adter get back to work. 2009 was great for me, I hope 2010 is even bet\u00adter.
