Bastina\u2019s Neck\u00adlace is a sci-fi erot\u00adic romance with a pirate, a princess, an inter\u00adra\u00adcial love affair, action, adven\u00adture, and\u2026 geez, what more could you ask for? Here\u2019s a lit\u00adtle syn\u00adop\u00adsis (Don\u2019t wor\u00adry, no spoilers)<\/p>\n

The Galac\u00adtic League of Plan\u00adets cre\u00adat\u00aded a ter\u00adraformed world for the Basti\u00adnans. They also pro\u00advid\u00aded the biggest and fastest space ves\u00adsel ever built to trans\u00adport them to their new home. Princess Anleen decid\u00aded that the space-ark could be put to bet\u00adter use. She defies the law and even her own father the King when she qui\u00adet\u00adly steers the ark toward her home plan\u00adet. She is deter\u00admined to prove once and for all that the leg\u00adend known as plan\u00adet Basti\u00adna isn\u2019t just a fairytale.<\/em><\/p>\n

When Cap\u00adtain Dirk Roberts seeks safe haven at the doomed plan\u00adet Aznate, he\u2019s only look\u00ading for a hot show\u00ader, a drink or three at the last spac\u00ader bar on the edge of known civ\u00adi\u00adliza\u00adtion, and repairs for his ship. What he finds instead is Anleen, the gold\u00aden-haired princess with a plan. She\u2019s dead set on find\u00ading her lost peo\u00adple, and he can\u2019t seem to keep away from her long enough to deny her any\u00adthing, includ\u00ading his assis\u00adtance. Now\u2026if only he believed that her fairy\u00adtale could come true, per\u00adhaps he could help her rewrite the ending.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n

Roscoe James is a world builder. After the third page, I was there on that plan\u00adet, and I felt Anleen\u2019s pain. Space trav\u00adel isn\u2019t glam\u00ador\u00adized, in fact spend\u00ading six months in a lone\u00adly space freighter is some\u00adthing that would take some get\u00adting used to. On this world, an Earth\u00adling and a Basti\u00adnan are thrown togeth\u00ader thanks to a good luck charm won in a pok\u00ader game and a ten-thou\u00adsand-year old-fairy tale. From the first time Anleen meets Dirk, you\u2019ll be able to feel the chem\u00adistry. Check out this lit\u00adtle excerpt:<\/p>\n

Anleen leaned dan\u00adger\u00adous\u00adly around the edge of the door\u00adway and was dumb\u00adstruck by the sight. Rip\u00adpling mus\u00adcles on his back, shoul\u00adders broad\u00ader than any she\u2019d ever seen. Thighs as thick as tun\u00adnel sup\u00adports, more ropes of mus\u00adcle pulling and bulging on each. She felt flushed.
\nNot black, she thought, a dark brown col\u00ador. Yes, she\u2019d seen it once, even tast\u00aded it.
\nChoco\u00adlate. Does he taste like chocolate?<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It gets bet\u00adter from there. I mean, just look at the cov\u00ader. I\u2019d fall for Dirk too! Bastina\u2019s Neck\u00adlace is a beau\u00adti\u00adful love sto\u00adry set in the midst of an excit\u00ading sci\u00adence fic\u00adtion sto\u00adry. Anleen isn\u2019t a weak lit\u00adtle pam\u00adpered princess. She\u2019s the kind of girl who can see what she wants\u2026and goes for it. Dirk is a tough guy on the out\u00adside, but oh boy does he have a ten\u00adder side. Check out this lit\u00adtle snip\u00adpet in Dirk\u2019s point of view:<\/p>\n

When Lee final\u00adly qui\u00adet\u00aded and her shoul\u00adders stopped quak\u00ading, Dirk raised her chin and kissed her soft\u00adly. Then he said the words he should have said weeks ago. Light years ago. Words that required much more courage than the com\u00ading bat\u00adtle. Words that brought more strength than food and quenched a thirst that would not stop. \u201cI love you, Lee.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yeah.<\/p>\n

One word of warn\u00ading, Roscoe James doesn\u2019t pull any punch\u00ades. The sex is sexy, and the vio\u00adlence is vio\u00adlent. Not that either is gra\u00adtu\u00aditous; every\u00adthing was where it needs to be, and fits the sto\u00adry well. Just put on your grown-up pants when you read it. I admit that I don\u2019t pick sci-fi romance as a rule, but after read\u00ading Bastina\u2019s Neck\u00adlace, I might have myself a new genre. Bastina\u2019s Neck\u00adlace is part of a series, The Galac\u00adtic League of Plan\u00adets, which includes Forever\u2019s Not Enough<\/a>. That\u2019s next on my TBR<\/span> pile.<\/p>\n\n
